FAQs

  • What is the deadline to enroll in Dominion Sports Collective? Applications are due by June 15th. Acceptance and enrollment in Liberty University Online Academy will take place in July.

  • Do I need to enroll my student in Liberty University Online Academy separately? No. When you apply to DSC, if accepted, DSC will register your student for Liberty and enroll them in their courses. DSC serves as a liaison with Liberty University Online Academy

  • Is DSC an accredited high school? Dominion Sports Collective partners with Liberty University Online Academy for academics. High school students are enrolled in Liberty University Online Academy, an internationally accredited (ACIS) and nationally accredited (SACA CASI division of Cognia), and regionally accredited (VCPE) K-12 Program with courses approved by the NCAA for Division 1 athletic program participation.

  • Where will learning take place? Students will complete their course work in a classroom setting at both campuses, Ironbridge North and Ironbridge South, based on a schedule best suited for fall, winter, and spring training.

  • How many hours a week will my student spend on academics? Students will spend approximately 45-60 minutes per course, per week on academics during a school week. 

  • Are all classes online?  Yes, all classes will be online through Liberty University Online Academy with in person classroom learning support from our seasoned educators. See below for computer requirements.

  • Which classes are NCAA approved? Only core classes are required to be approved by NCAA. Liberty University Online Academy has enhanced core courses that are pre-approved by NCAA. These courses require attendance in a once/week live video class, which will be approximately 60 minutes long. During the rest of the week, work for those courses will be done online without video sessions.

  • What will class time at the school look like? Students will use their own laptops (and headphones, if needed) to complete their online courses. The courses are self-paced, although there is a suggested schedule to ensure students finish their coursework on time. Our seasoned educators and coaches will be in the classroom at all times for supervision and to help with questions.

  • What if my child has questions about the schoolwork? Coaches will be in class at all times to help when possible. If more help is needed, Liberty University Online Academy teachers can be contacted for further support.

  • Is my child required to take Bible classes? Yes. Liberty University is a Christian school.  Each student is required to take one Bible class per year. Other subjects will be taught from a Christian worldview. 

  • When can students begin dual enrollment classes? Dual enrollment is available for 11th and 12th grade students.

  • Does DSC provide laptop computers? No. Students are required to provide their own laptop computer and headphones. Wi-Fi is available in all classrooms.

  • What computer features are required? Students will have access to Microsoft Office 365 and Liberty's electronic library materials through Liberty University Online Academy.

  • Recommended Computer Operating Systems:

    • Windows: 10 or 11

    • Please note ARM-based processors may not work with all applications for coursework

    • macOS 13 or newer (Ventura, Sonoma, or Sequoia)

    • NOTE: Devices like Chromebooks or mobile devices (tablets, phones, etc.) that do not have the following operating systems will have limited or no support.

  • Recommended Hardware Specifications

    • For students wishing to utilize personal devices for their degree programs either on-campus or online, we recommend the following hardware specifications so that you can comfortably run multiple applications for classes:

      • Processor: Intel i-Series (i3, i5, i7 10th generation or newer) or equivalent**
        Ryzen 5 or Ryzen 9 processor 3000 series or newer**

      • For Macs: 13″ to 16″ MacBooks (M1 processor or newer)

      • Memory: 16 GB RAM or higher

      • For Macs: 8GB RAM or higher

      • Hard Drive: 256GB or higher

      • Video: Integrated or Dedicated graphics card

      • Wireless Card:

        • Wi-Fi 6 or 6E NIC

        • 5GHz Dual Band / 6GHz Tri Band

        • 2×2 2.4Gbits. (20/40/80MHz)

        • WPA2-PSK/WPA2-Enterprise

    • *NOTE: Design classes and certain dual enrollment classes may have their own requirements.

  • Recommended Software

    • Internet Browsers

      • For the best browsing experience with Blackboard and Canvas, we officially recommend Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Microsoft Edge (Chromium).

      • Note: Only the Chromium version of Edge is supported. To verify which version of Edge is currently installed on your computer, open Microsoft Edge and select the three dots in the upper right corner to view “Settings and more”, and then select “About Microsoft Edge” in the left side menu. This page should mention “Chromium” below the Update settings section. If it instead reads “Microsoft EdgeHTML”, you can download the Chromium version of Edge.

  • Liberty has partnered with multiple software vendors to offer students great discounts on some of the software needed for your courses. The Microsoft Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel, OneNote, etc.) is available for currently enrolled students at no additional cost through Liberty.edu/Office365. Visit the IT Marketplace to view additional software that may be required by individual classes in a variety of majors.
